The Deane Sinfonia was formed in 1980, it is an amateur orchestra whose members come from a wide range of ages, backgrounds and playing abilities. We welcome enquiries from prospective members.

There is no minimum standard for members, however some pieces may prove taxing to anyone under approximately grade 5 standard.

The orchestra often invite gueststo perform in concerts, in the past this has included solo vocalists, instrumentalists andchoirs.  We rehearse from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm on Mondays during the school term at Queen Marys College, Cliddesden Road, Basingstoke.

Conductor

John Fuller

John Fuller has been conductor of Deane Sinfonia almost since its foundation in 1981.  He has more than 45 years experience as an orchestral conductor, and has for many years also been Director of the thriving Basingstoke Area Youth Orchestras and Choirs, conducting many concerts in The Anvil, Basingstoke, in addition to many other venues both locally and further afield.

Over the years he has conducted many choral works, symphonies and concertos in addition to lighter music, and has worked with many top class soloists.

Leader

Diane Wakefield.

In addition to leading the Deane Sinfonia, she currently teaches violin at Prince’s Mead School in Winchester, plays with the Covent Garden Chamber Orchestra in London, and freelances with other local orchestras.

She is married with two sons, and when any free time presents itself she enjoys reading, and learning Russian.
